Prehistory has never been so close. Within the Interreg Italy–Slovenia KAŠTellieri project, a new 360° virtual guide has been created, allowing visitors to digitally explore six remarkable prehistoric archaeological sites: St. Kvirik, Elerji, Monte Carso, Rupinpiccolo, Tabor pri Vojščici and Grmača.

The castellieri or hillforts, are characteristic prehistoric fortified settlements of the northern Adriatic region. They developed mainly during the Bronze Age and the Iron Age, when communities chose strategically important elevated sites that offered a good view of the surrounding landscape, natural routes, cultivable areas and access to water sources.

Today, their traces are often preserved as stone ramparts, terraces, defensive walls or barely visible marks in the landscape. This is precisely why the 360° guide offers a valuable opportunity to experience these places in a new way: from home, from the classroom, or as inspiration for an in-person visit.

The virtual tour takes us through ancient landscapes where, thousands of years ago, stories of communities, defence, routes and everyday life took shape.

This modern digital experience opens a window onto the world of the hillforts, restoring their visibility, meaning and place within the shared heritage of the Upper Adriatic.

Discover St. Quiricus, Elerji, Mali Kras, Gradec, Tabor near Vojščica and Grmača, and take a journey through millennia.
